The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

When I left Penn State in 1966 I embarked upon what turned out to be an extensive time of teaching at Conard High School in West Hartford, CT. I taught there continuously from 1966 until 2008. This allowed me to experience a variety of changes in school population, popularity of subjects, and enjoy many, many of Connecticut's youth. When I first arrived, there were no males included in any of the family and consumer sciences classes! Nor was there any Child Development course and definitely no laboratory nursery school. When I left we had over 50% enrollment of males in classes and a full day program of nursery school provided by our Child Development students. It was wonderful to make all of these changes take place. Although retired, I have returned to substitute teach occasionally in the department. That has allowed me to keep old ties, while also allowing the freedom to do many new things!
